Health Effects of Chernobyl

A quarter of a century after the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, its effects are still being suppressed, played down and covered up. The nuclear power lobby and politicians systematically scale down the dangers of low radiation exposure and its risks in their focussed propaganda. This is currently also the case in Fukushima; the operating company is repeatedly denying the consequences of their own measurements.

CELEBRATION OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE NUCLEAR-FREE FUTURE AWARDS 2011

Since 1998, Nuclear-Free Future Award honours people from all over the world who, as individuals or in groups, have undertaken exemplary work for a future without nuclear weapons and nuclear power. The prizewinners, in the categories Resistance, Education and Solutions, receive US$ 10 000 Dollar each. In addition there is an honorary award for lifelong commitment.  Internationally renowned musicians accompany this annual ceremony, that travels around the world, taking place in a different location every year. IPPNW and NFFA have been jointly hosting these events since the year 2000. The award-giving ceremony usually takes place in autumn but this year it has been moved forward to April to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe.

This year's laureates are the Russian activists Nadezhda Lvovna Kutepova and Natalia Manzurova, ZDF-Reporters Barbrara Dickmann and Angelica Fell, the German physicist Hans Grassmann, the Austrian activist Hans Stockinger
and the australian physician Helen Caldicott.
